On the 7th of June representatives from the Escola Europea de Short Sea Shipping (2E3S.eu) and the Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya (Railways of the Catalan Government – FGC) signed a collaboration agreement to work together in the organization and promotion of courses focusing on rail freight transport and its link to intermodal connections and the port systems. The Signing took place on the first day of the 2016 edition of SIL – The International Logistics Saloon in Barcelona.
Under the agreement, the Escola will be able to organize workshops and sessions on railway strategy at the facilities of FGC. Being a reference for institutions endowed with significant influence in the sector, FGC will also provide guest lecturers to impart some practical and theoretical classes as part of the course. Both institutions will also create a working group within the framework of “El Tren de l’Ensenyament” (the train of education) to develop a new route for “Freight trains and the Port: the engine for development.” In turn, the Escola will promote FGC’s commitment and support in all course materials, through all digital channels at its disposal, giving it full credit where it’s due.
This agreement is set to last 3 years, renewable annually from that point on under terms individually established by both parties. The collaboration between the Escola and FGC will further add to the expertise and proven quality of the Catalan centre’s courses. The support of the Catalan Government’s railway arm will give credibility and irreplaceable practical opportunities for students to experience the railway operations first-hand.
The Escola director Eduard Rodés met with Enric Ticó, president of the Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya at the FGC stand during the international conference to sign the agreement.
