The Escola adds up another SURCO Operations I course

Another SURCO Operations course edition: training on intermodal railway logistics for professionals

From 3rd to 6th of July, the Escola Europea finished off a new edition of SURCO Operations I, introductory training on intermodal logistics focused on national port-shipper operations.

This edition saw representatives of both private and public sectors among its participants. The port authorities of Barcelona, Tarragona and Huelva were present, and so were some outstanding national companies such as Inditex, Mercadona or Antonio Puig and logistics and transport operators such as Tradisa, Sytrans and JCV Shipping and Solutions.

SURCO training was designed for companies dedicated to maritime and railway intermodal freight and/or for port authorities, accountable for this traffic management.

This course analysed all elements that need be conjugated to offer rail-port services. The participants were given the tools to manage efficient logistic chains where railway can be a valid alternative in terms of service, cost or time.


During 4 days the participants had the opportunity to observe on the field railway infrastructures and equipments, as well as to analyse the legislation and documentation necessary to develop railway freight services. The lectures were complemented by visits to the following facilities: a shipper railway station (Inovyn), FGC integrated control centre (Rubí), Can Tunis railway complex and some railway terminals included in the Port of Barcelona area –TRAMER (bulks), BEST (semi-automatized container terminal), Autoterminal (vehicles) and LOGISTAINER BCN warehouse.
