Informal Council in Amsterdam

Commissioner for Transport Violeta Bulc, Commissioner for Environment, Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Karmenu Vella and Commissioner for Energy and Climate Action Miguel Arias Cañete represented the Commission at the joint Informal Transport and Environment Council held in Amsterdam on 14 and 15 April. The discussions focused on smart, sustainable and secure mobility measures.

On Thursday, Commissioners Bulc and Vella discussed with EU Ministers ways to have innovation in transport supporting smarter and low-carbon mobility. Special focus was given to the development of connected and automated driving.

On Friday, Commissioners Bulc and Arias Cañete discussed with Ministers the follow-up to the climate agreement reached in Paris at the COP21, and in particular measures to reduce global emissions from the aviation and shipping sectors. Later on that day, Commissioner Bulc and Transport ministers debated on the cost of non-Schengen for the transport sector and on transport security in the wake of the Brussels attacks.
