Italian students learn intermodality in Barcelona through 2E3S

The Escola Europea de Short Sea Shipping continues to attract Italian students to it’s courses. The week of the 22nd of February the Escola organized a 5-day long training – WHITE Intermodality – for students from the University of Genoa. This was the second course of the month aimed at Italian students, therewith continuing to strengthen the connection between the Escola and the Italian institutions.

The Escola’s WHITE Intermodality course aims to provide training in intermodal logistics, Short Sea Shipping services and the Motorways of the Sea. The students spent five days observing and experiencing short sea shipping activities first hand through practical workshops, visits to a Ro-Ro vessel, explanations of the various terminals of the Port of Barcelona, etc. The course’s theoretical content was also accompanied by a case study, which the students had to solve using knowledge acquired throughout the training.

The training was carried out in English, Italian, and Spanish, and taught by a combination of professionals and professors from the transport sector. These included representatives of Grimaldi Lines, the Port Authority of Barcelona, the Port Authority of Genoa, Trade Promotion Dept. Banca Intesa San Paolo, and the Escola Europea de Short Sea Shipping. The students were given the opportunity to participate in workshops, practical visits to the vessel, debates and work in groups.

This group came from the University of Genoa which for a second consecutive year has sent students to the Escola’s courses with the goal of cementing their knowledge of intermodal transport – and establishing therewith the Escola’s training as a very interesting theoretical and practical addition to their Masters programme. With each successful course the desires to continue and expand the collaboration between the Escola and the Italian centres grow and will continue to extend the Escola’s reach across the Mediterranean.
