“The maritime transport & MoS”: an international course by Optimed project

The Optimed project organized an international course on “The Maritime transport & Motoroways of the Sea” – “Short Sea Shipping, Motorways of the Sea and e-freight” in Cagliari. The event promoted by Escola Europea de Short Sea Shipping was destined to logistic workers and officials of Public Administration of North West Coast and South-East coast of Mediterranean Sea and it held in Barcelona and Cagliari.

Several guests from Algeria, Egypt, Italy, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, Spain and Tunisia and several stakeholders from Port of Beirut, Ministry of Transport of Lebanon, University of Egypt and Algeria took part to the course.

The event promoted the effects of the improvement of system “Short Sea Shipping” by Optimed project. The outcomes of the project showed the benefits about the new network design about the cost, durations and dependability of goods delivering by Sea in contrast with by trail or wheels. The focal points are two hubs: Torres Port and Port of Beirut that they are in the opposite position between the oriental coast and occidental coast of Mediterranean Sea.

Sardinia plays a strategic role on the commercial flow of Spain, French and Italy, but also of Lebanon, Egypt, Jordan and Syria. The project is one of the 95 projects financed by ENPI CBC MED 2007-2013 Programme, and the Region of Sardinia is the Authority of Management and it aims to promote a new cooperation and sustainable process inside of Mediterranean space. The involved States are Cyprus, Egypt, French, Jordan, Greece, Israel, Italy, Lebanon, Malta, Palestine, Portugal, Spain, Syria and Tunisia.
